Guest Speaker: Nathan Jones
Curator of the Bryan Museum in Galveston, TX
The Bryan Museum is home to an extensive collection of Texas and the American West art collected by Houston business man J.P. Bryan & Mary Jon Bryan. Located in the historic Galveston Orphans Home, the museum opened its doors in June 2015 and quickly became a draw to locals and visitors alike. In 2016, Nathan Jones was named the new curator of the Bryan Museum in Galveston,TX.
Jones earned his Bachelor and Master of Arts in history with specialization in public history from Texas State University. He served as curatorial fellow at the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, a museum dedicated to American decorative arts, paintings, and furniture. In addition, he held positions at the Henry Ford Museum, Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts Summer Institute, Dolph Briscoe Center for American History, Museum of Texas Handmade Furniture, and Houston Maritime Museum.

With a special performance by Julia Laskowski
Julia Kay Laskowski, a Houston celebrity, has performed with every prominent theater in Houston, including the two premier Broadway theaters, Theater Under the Stars and the Alley Theatre. She sang the title role in Always. . . Patsy Cline for 18 months – the longest-running musical ever in Houston and again in Iowa and at the Texas Repertory Theater in North Houston. Laskowski is a graduate of California Institute of the Arts, where she began her career as an opera singer. Her operatic experience includes Micaela, Queen of the Night, Zerbinetta, Donna Elvira, Anina and Rosina. |
