Summer 2018 Art Camp
at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts:

The Educated Eye and The Intuitive Eye

Everyone has an “intuitive eye” when it comes to art – the instinctual ability of every human being to appreciate the beauty of art.  As young children, we enjoy the process of making art well before we are taught anything about it in a formal way. Even those of us who later move on to other pursuits can still look at art and say, “I know what I like when I see it.”  This is one’s intuitive eye at work.

During The Intuitive Eye camp, students will learn about artists whose success was based on using their innate intuitive eye. Campers will explore several art techniques and be encouraged to follow up on “happy accidents,” with the goal of turning them into a controllable, repeatable art process. We’ll also introduce established techniques so the camper’s painting abilities can match their intuitive eye.

The Educated Eye camp will place more emphasis on the structure, elements, and principals of art. With this critical foundation, campers will be better able to interpret art and expand their creativity in the art-making process.  The techniques and materials used in these art projects will parallel those used by established artists, and add to the campers’ growing knowledge base of how to make art.

Students will work on individual projects and group projects, and go home at the end of the week with their own collection of artwork.  Find more details about our summer camp options below!
