Summer 2018 Art Camp
at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts:

The Educated Eye and The Intuitive Eye
Our mission is to educate our patrons about art through our exhibitions and programs. Our exhibitions rely on borrowed collections that are as diverse as possible. It is wonderful to appreciate what we see spontaneously and it is an extra level of enjoyment when there is knowledge behind our instinctual reaction to a work of art. Everyone has an ‘Intuitive Eye’ when it comes to art, it is an inborn instinctual ability of every human being. As young children we all enjoy the process of making art well before we are taught anything about it in a formal way. Even those of us who later move onto other pursuits can still look at art and say, “I know what I like when I see it.” … since their ‘Intuitive Eye’ is at work.

Students will work on individual projects and group projects, and go home at the end of the week with their own collection of artwork that spans generations.  Find more details about our summer camp options below!

Camp Types
Camps are offered for two different age groups:
  • Junior Campers, ages 8-12:  Two different camps are offered for Junior Campers - The Educated Eye and The Intuitive Eye.
    • The ‘Educated Eye’ Camp will have more emphasis on the structure and the elements and principals of art so that campers will be better able to discuss art using formal terms. The techniques we explore will cover some famous artists and add to the camper’s general knowledge of how to make art.
    • During the ‘Intuitive Eye’ camp students will get a glimpse into a few famous artists whose successwas based on their innate ‘intuitive eye’, we will explore several techniques and encourage following up on ‘happy accidents’ with the goal of turning them into a controllable, repeatable art technique. Other techniques we will introduce/use are tried & true so the campers’ painting abilities can begin to match their ‘Intuitive Eye’.
  • Senior Campers, ages 13-18:  The Senior Camp features a selection of both Educated and Intuitive Eye projects at a more advanced level.

Schedule
All camps are one week long and meet Monday-Friday, 9am-12pm at the museum (6815 Cypresswood Dr, Spring, TX 77379).  Space in each Summer Art Camp is limited to 16 students.
