Spring 2022 EXHIBITIONS

Cultivating The Dutch Tradition In The 21st Century Jane Jones' Hyperrealist Floral Paintings
January 29th-May 14th 2022

Jane Jones works within the context of the seventeenth century Dutch school of painting, inspired by artists such as Maria van Oosterwyck (1630 – 1693), Maria Sibylla Merian (1647 – 1717), and Rachel Ruysch (1664-1750). She composes her work with contemporary stylistic choices by juxtaposing the organic, elegant flowers with geometric objects in a simplified, impactful manner. The emphasis on light and vibrant color captures the beauty of the flowers.

Jane Jones received an education in both biology and art history. Her stunning photo-realist paintings are created with precise observation, showing her deep respect for living systems and ecology. Her still life paintings highlight what Jones calls the ‘everyday triumphs of
nature’ and the ‘power, beauty, and fragility of life,’ none of which should ever be taken for granted.”

Jones exhibits her work in museums and galleries across the United States. Her paintings have won numerous national awards including the Award of Excellence in Blossom ~ Art of Flowers which premiered at the Naples Museum of Art and was toured nationally by David J. Wagner, L.L.C.; and the Floral Award in the Annual Exhibition of the International Guild of Realism in 2013 and 2018. She is the author of Classic Still Life Painting and is represented by galleries in Denver, New York, Santa Fe, and Scottsdale.

Cultivating Dutch Tradition in The 21st Century - Jane Jones' Hyperrealist Floral Paintings, is Produced by David J. Wagner, L.L.C., David J. Wagner, Ph.D., Curator/Tour Director; And Sponsored by Culture Trove - A Traveling Exhibitions Database for Museum Professionals. Illusion and Certainty
Martin Weinstein
January 29th-May 14th 2022

Martin Weinstein creates dynamic landscapes by combining abstraction with layered elements. He breaks down compositions into three to four layers on clear acrylic sheet surfaces that are then combined to form a perspective spanning time. The complexity in his approach leads the paintings to envelop movement, time, and dimensionality. Weinstein occasionally abstracts elements of his landscapes, subtly shifting an axis or bending the light to capture how we see and experience the world in actuality.

Weinstein’s earliest inspiration was the work of J.M.W. Turner, which he viewed at the British Museum in London. His interest in abstraction, depth, and enhanced perspectives has created an exciting, interesting approach to the familiar subject matter of landscape painting.

Weistein has shown his work extensively, in over 30 solo museum exhibitions nationally, and at Franklin Reihlman Fine Art, New York; Walter Wickiser Gallery, New York; Allen Gallery, New York; MacNider Art Museum, Mason City, IA; Visual Arts Center, Sioux Falls, SD; and the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, Atlanta GA.

Exhibition organized through Katharine T Carter & Associates.

Kari Breitigam: Arrangements

Marilyn M. Hillery Gallery
January 29 - May 14, 2022

Kari Breitigam is a Professor of Art at Lone Star College - University Park, where she has taught since 2012.  She currently teaches classes in Art Appreciation, Drawing, and Painting. Her studio artwork focuses on fiber techniques such as textile dyeing, latch hook, and appliqué and she continues to paint in oils. In addition to her fine art, Kari also creates limited edition jewelry and accessories which explore the use of fiber, dyes, clay, and metal. Her work has been included in various exhibitions and publications including New American Paintings.  Locally, her work has been exhibited at the Lawndale Art Center, Galveston Art Center, and Mantle Art Space in San Antonio.

Kari's work is born from a commitment to bring warmth to a minimalist aesthetic. Visible textures, simplified irregular forms, and organic shapes play integral roles in every design and accentuate evidence of the human touch. She refers to these paintings as arrangements not only because they depict floral arrangements, but also because they represent her own play with arranging visual forms. Each painting becomes a puzzle to solve as she worked her way from start to finish.

Theiss Elementary School: Lone Star Copper

Cobb Reception Gallery
April 22 - May 14, 2022

Under the guidance of art teacher Connie Shin, fifth grade students at Theiss Elementary School in Klein ISD studied American history and created copper art that represents the Lone Star State we live in. The students learned about the creation of the Statue of Liberty and the patination process and utilized the repousse technique in their art. Lastly, they painted the piece with India ink to patinate the copper stars giving it texture and shine. The students enjoyed the repousse process and were able to learn a new intricate art technique that resulted in these beautiful copper stars.
