September 5, 2017:
The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts took on some damages as a result of Hurricane Harvey. Now the costly process of restoration has already begun, and insurance covers only part of these crucial expenses. The museum urgently needs support from the community to help with this financial challenge.
A special fund to help “Restore the Pearl” has been established so gifts can easily be made from anywhere. Donors can give by texting pearlart to 243725 and choosing a donation amount, or by visiting http://bidpal.net/pearlart.
The Pearl will be closed while repairs are made, and the hope is to re-open as soon as possible this fall. Donations will enable the museum to make vital repairs so the Pearl can continue to serve the community with art and educational programming for all to enjoy.
For help with these unanticipated costs, the museum must rely on the generosity of the community, which ten years ago turned the dream of the Pearl into a reality in northwest Houston.
“We are so grateful for the many volunteers who have come to the Pearl to provide help and encouragement during this time,” said Ani Boyajian, who began her appointment as Director of the Pearl just a few weeks before the storm. “This is an amazing community. Together we will emerge stronger and with a greater appreciation for each other and all that makes this unique corner of the world so special.”

Our hearts go out to all who have suffered from the impact of Hurricane Harvey. We are very grateful for the strong leadership of our elected officials and the heroic efforts of neighbors helping neighbors. All museum staff members are safe. We will not be able to fully assess the possible damage to the museum until the floodwaters surrounding Cypresswood Drive have receded and area dangers are lifted. Photographs taken of the museum during the storm reassure us that our floor levels are sufficiently high enough to anticipate minimal damage.
We are diligently monitoring the situation. Reports indicate that waters in the neighborhood are slowly receding. Please be aware that the museum will remain closed until further notice. We hope our friends and neighbors are staying safe, and look forward to helping our community rebuild.
