Family Art Studio
Join us at the Pearl on Wednesday evenings for a hands-on studio art experience! The new Family Art Studio is a pilot program of our recently-established School of Arts, and is designed for both adults and children (over the age of 8).
Each week features a different class with projects inspired by our current art exhibitions and various cultural traditions. The 1.5-hour class is offered twice each Wednesday: 4:30-6:00pm and 6:30-8:00pm. Each session is limited to 30 participants.
Families are encouraged to attend, as are individuals interested in discovering new art forms and techniques. Class fees are $10 per person or $8 for museum members. All materials are provided for participants.
Please note: Children & teens under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

November 2, 2016:
Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Learn more about the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) holiday, a centuries-old cultural tradition celebrated in Mexico and Latin America on November 1st & 2nd. Día de los Muertos honors and celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed on, through festivals, food & drink, building altars (ofrendas), and other traditions. Projects for this class include papel picado (cut paper) banners, calavera (skull) masks, and paper flowers. Enjoy traditional treats while you work, including pan de muerto (bread of the dead) - a soft sweet bread bun with bone shapes on top! November 9, 2016:
Wooden Animal Sculptures Featured this fall in our Rebecca Cole Gallery is Turning Point, an exhibition overview of masterworks in the ancient art of woodturning. These handcrafted works will serve as inspiration for wooden sculptures to be created by participants in this class. We will combine the mediums of wood and paint to make sculptures that also capture the vibrancy of Australian Aboriginal motifs. November 16, 2016:

November 30, 2016:
Metal Embossing Try your hand at metal embossing in this class inspired by artwork featured in our Main Gallery exhibition, In the Dreamtime... Australian Aboriginal Paintings from Booker-Lowe Gallery. As new genres, techniques, and materials are added to the available media, art and artists evolve. Many artists in Australia are now using metal to create pieces of art while maintaining their tradition of motifs. Our class will create colorful embossed metal plaques in that same tradition. December 7, 2016:
