The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to present Inspirations, a selection of work from artist Marilyn Morgan Hillery (1928-2014).
Born in Kansas City, Kansas and raised in Enid, Oklahoma, Marilyn and husband Robert Hillery moved to Houston in 1973. Marilyn studied commercial art and worked in advertising. She gravitated towards painting and furthered her studies with a BFA in Painting from the University of Houston in 1987.
Marilyn’s lifelong pursuit of the arts was deeply tied to community. While raising their three children, she and Robert became original members of the Cypress Creek Christian Church, where she went on to serve as Chairman of the Board. She was a founding member of DaVinci Artists Gallery in Tomball, TX, and was an active member of the Watercolor Arts Society-Houston and the Northwest Art League.
Marilyn also played a pivotal role in the conception and development of the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts, serving as a founding member of the Board of Directors and a long-time advocate for the Pearl. On July 29, 2011, the museum’s community art wing was officially renamed the Marilyn Morgan Hillery Community Gallery in honor of her many contributions to the museum and support of local artists in the Northwest Houston area.
Each year, the Hillery Community Gallery hosts 8-10 exhibitions featuring the work of local artists, artist groups, and students from multiple public, private, and home schools.
