The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is proud to present Copper Stars, and exhibition of artwork created by 5th graders at Theiss Elementary School (Klein ISD) under the guidance of art teacher Connie Shin.
For this art lesson, the students first learned about the history of the Statue of Liberty – the creators, the process, and the patination of the copper in the statue. They also learned the repoussé process of manipulating the shape of metal, which required the students' understanding of relief sculpture and the concepts of convex and concave shapes. Students created their relief artwork on real copper, and used India ink to patinate the stars. Meet the artists! Visit the museum on Saturday, March 9 (10am-12pm) for free Family Day activities and an open-house reception honoring these talented student artists! |
