Fifth graders at Theiss Elementary School in Klein ISD recently studied the importance of symbols in culture and art. Under the guidance of art teacher Connie Shin, each student created intricate Celtic designs on real copper using the repoussé metalworking technique. Learning the repoussé process -- which involves manipulating the shape of metal -- required the students' understanding of relief sculpture and the concepts of convex and concave shapes. The chemical reaction between liver of sulfur and copper was also a part of the experience during this learning experience.
Meet the artists! Visit the museum on Saturday, March 11 (11am-3pm) for free Family Day activities and an open-house reception honoring these talented student artists! |
