January 23 - May 16, 2015
Painting in the Texas Tradition: Contemporary Texas Regionalism, courtesy of William Reaves Fine Art, showcases 28 works of art in painting, drawing, and printmaking, with the artists’ giving their modern “take” on the Texas landscape, Texas traditions, and the people of the state.
The exhibition includes landscapes of the waters of the Texas Gulf Coast to the dry, dusty West Texas High Plains, while other artists celebrate iconic city scenes and skylines from around the state. The people are featured as well: tough, durable, and always colorful, the “larger than life” that is part of living in Texas shows in these large, colorful canvases.
In conjunction with the museum’s previous exhibition of Texas art, Texas Before the Boom, 1850-1900, courtesy of Bobbie and John L. Nau, III, the Pearl brings three centuries of Texas home to the museum.
