Dual Nature: Selections from the Chaney Family Collection
Main Gallery
June 20 - December 19, 2015

Dual Nature: Selections from the Chaney Family Collection is an exploration of contradictions and dichotomy in and between works in this private, Houston-based collection of contemporary art.

In this exhibition, distinctly man-made materials are used to replicate natural phenomena. Real animals and butterflies are preserved and given new life in utterly unexpected contexts. Grossly-exaggerated scale depictions of food, childhood toys, portraits, and animals invade space and demand attention. Even seemingly-traditional paintings, drawings, and photographs are revealed as non-traditional in either execution or result, in this exhibition. Present throughout are divisions and contrasts between things that are or are represented as being opposed or entirely different, yet presented together to altogether alter their nature.
