Tuesday, February 2 Community Gallery, Persistant Visions of Sound by John O’Dell and Scott Richards, aka Roarshak vs. Insula, opens in the Community Gallery. Wednesday, February 10 55+ Workshop, “Charcoal Portraits,” 9am-12pm in the Northgate Forest Conference Room. Using the basic shading techniques learned in the previous workshop, we will study the rendering of portraits. Our class will be presented with guidelines to map out the human face, which will make it easier to draw a portrait with realistic proportions. Fees vary according to membership status and materials. Saturday, February 13 GREEN Museum Family Day, 10am-5pm. All activites are FREE and open to the public. The Pearl is going green for this sustainable family day. Learn about water conservation, native plants, and how to turn trash into treasure. We will be repurposing household items and found objects to make art. Artists will demonstrate during the day and don’t miss our reusable grocery bag giveaway. Thursday, February 25 Evening Lecture Series featuring John O’Dell and Scott Richards, aka Roarshak vs. Insula. This lecture will begin with the screening of the original short film, Persistent Visions of Sound, and will be followed by a Q&A with the creators John O’Dell and Scott Richards. Joint book discussion at 1:30pm with the Barbara Bush Adult Book Club at the Barbara Bush Library in the Robin Bush Room at the back of the Children's Area. A tour of The Wilson Potters: An African-American Enterprise in 19th Century Texas will follow the discussion at the Pearl. Voss author of Images of America: Galveston’s The Elissa. Kurt Voss published a new illustrated book on the Elissa in 2009, the best history of the Tall Ship of Texas compiled to date.
