March 2-April 11, 2010 The Lazy Afternoon Bayou, 2009 in the Community Gallery Texas Tim studied art at Florissant Valley Community College in St. Louis, Missouri, the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and the University of Houston in Texas. In 1993 he wrote and appeared in an art instruction video, “Fun with Caricatures” which aired on PBS stations nationwide. Tim’s first book was “How to Draw Designer Caricatures,” an art book that shows the secrets to drawing funny faces. “Smoke in Your Eye Makes You Cry: Volume 1” is another of Tim’s books, and targeted young readers. Each story contained jokes, puns, and play on words with a delightful tapestry of animal characters. The lively personalities ranged from a tiny bee to a T-rex dinosaur, to a singing armadillo. In their own unique way they tell the tales about the dangers of tobacco addiction. Texas Tim’s stories teach reading skills, an appreciation for art and literature with an anti-smoking message. In this exhibition, Texas Tim uses his skills as a caricature artist to capture a range of subjects from the Houston skyline to a baseball pitcher in mid throw. Texas Tim lives and works in the 1960 area with his dog Brandi, who goes with him on all his painting expeditions. For more information, visit www.texastim.com.
